Below is a list of typical questions we regularly get asked. Or give us a call, we are happy to help.
Can I taste your cake bases before I decide on flavour?
Yes! For wedding cakes you are welcome to book a taster and design session with one of our decorators that enables you to try the range of cake bases we have on offer. This is a free, no obligation service that we are pleased to provide and can be arranged by appointment for up to 3 people during normal opening hours or can be considered after hours for your convenience.
How long does my cake stay fresh for?
We recommend for optimum freshness:
- Consume cake bases within 3 days
- Consume cupcakes within one day
- Consume fruit cake within one month
This will vary depending on storage conditions as all our cakes are baked fresh from natural ingredients and do not contain additional preservatives.
Can you make a cake suitable for people with allergies and intolerances?
Yes we can! We work with a local specialised home baker for any that we are unable to make ourselves. Please let us know your special requirements when you place your order.
How many slices will I get from my cake?
The number of slices depends on the cake type and shape along with how you cut the cake. Sponge cakes are usually cut into slices measuring approximately 1″ x 2″. Fruit cakes are usually cut into slices measuring 1″ x 1″.
Here is an approximate guide to the number of slices you should expect to get from our cakes:
5″ | 6″ | 7″ | 8″ | 9″ | 10″ | 11″ | 12″ | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Round Sponge | 10 | 14 | 20 | 25 | 33 | 39 | 49 | 56 |
Square Sponge | 12 | 18 | 24 | 32 | 40 | 50 | 60 | 72 |
Round Fruit | 21 | 28 | 40 | 50 | 66 | 78 | 98 | 113 |
Square Fruit | 27 | 36 | 51 | 64 | 84 | 100 | 125 | 144 |
Do you offer a free cake consultation service?
Yes! You are welcome to book a free design session with one of our decorators. For wedding cakes your design session can also include a taster session that enables you to try the range of cake bases we have on offer. This is a free, no obligation service that we are pleased to provide and can be arranged by appointment for up to 3 people during normal opening hours or can be considered after hours for your convenience.
What do I need to bring with me to my cake consultation?
You will need to know:
- The occasion date
- The approximate number of guests
You should also bring any ideas or details you would like included in your cake design such as colour swatches, invitations, details from your wedding dress, etc…
If you require delivery or cake set-up you will also need to know:
- Where the party will be held
- Directions to your venue
- The name and contact number of the occasion planner
Will you make up a design especially for me?
Yes! A member of our team is always available to discuss and create designs with you. In fact we encourage this! Our expert staff will guide you through the design process using influences such as colour schemes, hobbies and interests, personal preferences and the number of guests you are catering for as well as your budget. Any finished design is then kept under wraps until your big day.
Can I have fresh flowers on my cake?
Yes! We can work with your chosen florist and wedding planner, or recommend a local florist we have worked with in the past.
Is everything on my cake edible?
No! Not all aspects of every design are edible. This will be discussed and pointed out to you at time of design and booking with advice on your responsibilities in choosing that design.
For example:
- Some figures have wooden supports in them
- Stacked cakes have plastic dowels
- Flowers and sprays are contained in plastic picks
- Feathers, ribbons, crystals and sequins all need to be removed prior to consumption
Will my cake look exactly the same as the ones in your shop?
Your cake will have the same high standard of finish that we provide to all our cakes. Those on display are finished on a polystyrene base and can vary slightly from a freshly baked cake. As everything is handmade; colours and decorative elements can also vary slightly.
Can I make changes to my cake once the order has been placed?
Certain changes will be accommodated whenever possible, provided the aspect you want changed has not already been completed, in which case a charge may apply.
Can you make “fake” or dummy layers?
Some customers have asked if we could use a dummy as opposed to cake to “pump up” the height of their cake. We can provide dummy cakes whether as a whole or in part and have previously done this for various reasons, to give height, or for transport dilemmas.
Dummy cakes still require the same amount of time and care on our part to decorate so they don’t typically reduce the cost. Feel free to enquire and discuss these options with us.
